Reckoning

judgement day comes

not as judgement

day

but as life everyday,

a sunlit room around you

spacious and full of

nice things.

you cannot breathe free.

the windows open on first try

and let in nothing

because

there is nothing to let in

but you.

what you did, what you made of life

for weeks and months and years

comes wafting in-

like the stale cardboard air

doesn't already surround you-

like it doesn't already encase you

smother you

cling to every pore and fibre-

without budging

unceasing

judgement (day)

everyday.
