chances

do you ever wonder
if you deserve
these
rebirths?

i am like a folded paper plane
that is never quite right.
it never quite flies.

in fact,
i am a hundred paper planes
that are never quite right,
that never quite fly.

yet i am made anew-
with renewed hope-
with better paper

each time
with more determination,
more tenacity.

and with every
flight that tanks,
every landing
like a fizzing balloon
that comes too soon

i wince at redemption.
